AI for Manufacturing Businesses
Practical uses of AI for manufacturers, from orders to the factory floor

Less Re-Keying Around the Factory
In most manufacturers, a lot of time goes into moving information by hand: customer orders from email into the system, supplier invoices checked against deliveries, quotes built from old jobs, and reports pulled together for the morning meeting.
AI is now good at reading documents and drafting from data. Used properly, it does the first pass and a person checks it before anything is confirmed or paid. It won't run your production, and if your ERP or MRP system already does the job, we'll tell you.
Practical Things AI Can Do Today
For each one: what AI does, and what a person still does.
Customer orders from email
AI: Reads purchase orders in PDFs and emails and creates draft sales orders in your system.
You: Confirm each order. Unknown part numbers or prices are flagged.
Supplier invoices matched to deliveries
AI: Checks invoices against the purchase order and what was actually received.
You: Approve clean matches. Short deliveries and price changes are flagged first.
Quotes
AI: Drafts a quote from similar past jobs and current material costs.
You: Check and adjust. Your estimator starts from a draft, not a blank sheet.
Stock and reorder warnings
AI: Explains in plain English what is running low, which orders it affects and what to reorder.
You: Decide what to buy, without digging through reports.
Quality reports
AI: Turns notes and photos into a structured non-conformance report and points out repeat problems.
You: Review it and act. Patterns are easier to see.
Supplier delays
AI: Reads supplier emails about late deliveries and lists the customer orders affected.
You: Decide who to call first. Fewer surprises at dispatch.
What AI Won't Do
Keeping expectations realistic.
- Run your production or replace your planners. It handles the reading and drafting; people make the decisions.
- Get everything right. Unclear documents and messy part data trip it up, so a person checks before anything is confirmed.
- Fix poor master data. If part numbers or prices are inconsistent, that gets cleaned up first.
- Need a big project. Start with one document type, such as customer orders, prove it, then extend.
How to Start
Pick one task
Choose something frequent and annoying, with a clear start and finish, rather than a broad AI programme.
Check what you already have
If your current software can already do it, we set that up instead of building something new.
Build it with a check step
AI does the first pass, a person approves, and your system records what happened.
Run it beside the old way
For a few weeks, compare results with the manual process before relying on it.
Then decide what is next
Keep it, adjust it, or move on to the next task if the first one has earned it.
