Jet Convert vs MMC Convert

What each conversion service moves into Xero or MYOB, what it costs, and what is still left to do afterwards.

Jet Convert or MMC Convert: The Short Answer

Jet Convert and MMC Convert are the two big accounting file-conversion services in Australia. Jet Convert moves MYOB, Reckon and QuickBooks files into Xero only, and for an eligible file the standard conversion costs nothing because Xero subsidises it. MMC Convert moves data into Xero, MYOB Business and several other systems, from almost any accounting software, and it is the service MYOB points switchers to. If your business has one company file, one currency and not much connected to it, either tool will do the job well and cheaply. Use it.

Where things get harder is everything a conversion doesn't touch: a second or third entity, the job management or inventory system that posts into your accounts, the way jobs map to tracking, the reports you run each month, and proving the new file matches the old one. That is the part this page is really about, and it is where Kenomont helps: before and after the tool, not instead of it.

Prices and limits below come from Jet Convert's and MMC Convert's own websites and help pages, and from MYOB's and Xero's own listings, as at October 2026. They change, so check the vendor's site before you book.

Which One Suits You?

  • Moving MYOB, Reckon or QuickBooks to Xero: start with Jet Convert. The Standard package is $0 for eligible conversions and covers the current and previous financial year.
  • Moving Xero, QuickBooks or Reckon to MYOB Business: MMC Convert. MYOB covers the cost of the current and previous financial years.
  • Coming from less common software (Sage, Wave and others): MMC Convert, which converts from almost any accounting software.
  • Multi-currency MYOB or Reckon file going to Xero: Jet Convert won't take it. MMC Convert sells multi-currency as an add-on, or the conversion can be scripted.
  • More than one entity, or systems feeding the accounts: use the tool for the data, and plan the rest separately. See what conversion doesn't cover.

Jet Convert: Into Xero Only

Jet Convert converts MYOB (Australia and New Zealand), Reckon and QuickBooks Online files into Xero. You upload the file and it does the rest. As at October 2026 its Australian pricing is:

  • Standard, $0 (normally $250, subsidised by Xero): current and previous financial year, chart of accounts, contacts, items, up to 100 jobs/classes, payroll for up to 50 employees.
  • Accelerate, $470 (normally $720): current plus three previous years, monthly comparatives, payroll for up to 200 employees and up to 500 jobs/classes.
  • Custom, from $470: choose payroll and jobs/classes options. Extra years are $150 each.

What Jet Convert says it can't convert, or only part-converts

  • Multi-currency or multi-location MYOB and Reckon files
  • MYOB files with negative inventory, or using WET/WEG tax settings
  • Old MYOB Essentials, MYOB Advanced, EXO, Greentree and Accountants Enterprise
  • AccountRight Enterprise only "depending on how it has been used"
  • Older .MYO desktop files: history is limited to the financial years still open
  • PDF attachments, employer expenses, payslips and timesheets
  • Files over 800MB need a custom conversion

Payroll: employee setup, leave, pay templates and year-to-date balances come across, but past pay runs arrive as manual journals or paid bills, not as Xero pay runs. If the file isn't prepared to their checklist first, a reconversion charge may apply.

MMC Convert: Into Xero, MYOB and More

MMC Convert converts from almost any accounting software into Xero, MYOB Business, QuickBooks Online, Reckon and several other systems. It has an Australian office in Carnegie, Victoria. As at October 2026 its published prices are:

  • From MYOB, QuickBooks Online, Reckon or Xero: Basic $99 or Full Transactional $189, plus $85 per extra year.
  • From other software: Basic $399 or Full Transactional $549, plus $150 per extra year.
  • Into MYOB Business: MYOB covers the current and previous financial years for subscribers; extra years are charged. MYOB says you will be running within ten business days.

What MMC Convert excludes or charges extra for

  • Budgets, expense claims and projects
  • Memorised transactions, payment terms and invoice templates
  • Timesheets, deleted transactions and individual pay runs
  • Multi-currency, payroll, fixed asset register, quotes and purchase orders: paid add-ons
  • Into MYOB Business: payroll arrives as general journals, and anything entered after the migration date has to be keyed in by hand

Its Xero conversions include the chart of accounts, contacts, inventory items, opening balances, aged receivables and payables, bank transactions, tracking categories, invoices, bills and manual journals.

If Your File Is Simple, Just Use Jet Convert or MMC Convert

Most small businesses don't need a consultant to change accounting software. If the points below describe you, book the conversion with whichever tool goes where you are going, follow its preparation checklist, and have your bookkeeper or accountant check the trial balance afterwards:

  • One company file, one entity, one currency
  • Nothing much posts into the accounts apart from bank feeds and perhaps a payment app
  • Two or three years of history is plenty
  • Standard reports are enough, with no custom management reports built off the old system
  • The file is tidy: clearing accounts at nil, no negative stock, bank transactions coded

Paying anyone to re-do work these tools already do well is a waste of money. Where we come in is the business that ticks fewer of those boxes: several entities, several systems around the accounts, and an owner who needs the numbers to line up on day one.

What Conversion Doesn't Cover

Jet Convert and MMC Convert move the data in your accounting file. They don't set up the business around it. For a business of 10 to 200 staff, these are usually the parts that take the time.

More than one entity

Both tools convert one company file into one organisation. If you run a trading company, a property trust and a payroll entity, each is a separate conversion, and the inter-company loans, recharges and consolidated reporting have to be set up again on the other side.

Multi-entity and inter-company setup

Integrations to reconnect

Job management (simPRO, ServiceM8), inventory (Cin7), CRMs, payroll and expense apps all post into your accounts. A conversion moves the data, but each connection has to be re-pointed, re-mapped to the new chart of accounts and tested before staff rely on it.

Xero and MYOB integration

Tracking and job costing

MYOB jobs, Reckon classes and Xero tracking categories don’t work the same way. Xero allows two active tracking categories, so a business that costs by job, branch and division has to decide what goes where before the data moves, not after.

Xero tracking category limits

Reports people actually use

Custom profit and loss layouts, job profitability reports, board packs and anything built in Excel off the old system will not come across. They have to be rebuilt and checked against the old numbers.

Reporting and dashboards

Reconciliation and sign-off

Someone has to prove the new file matches the old one: trial balance, receivables, payables, bank and GST, at the conversion date. That check, and the accountant’s sign-off, is on you whichever tool you use.

Accounting data migration

How the team works on day one

Approval steps, bank rules, invoice templates and who does what each week usually change when the system changes. That is a process question, not a data question, and no conversion tool answers it.

Where Kenomont Fits: Around the Tool, Not Instead of It

We are a small, founder-led data and systems consultancy run by Aaron Chambers on the Gold Coast, with 20+ years of experience, working with businesses across Australia remotely. We don't compete with conversion tools on price, and for a simple file we'll tell you to use one. For the rest, the work falls into three parts:

1.Before the tool

Clean up the old file so it passes the tool’s preparation checks: clearing accounts reconciled to nil, inactive employees terminated, bank transactions coded, add-ons and bank feeds turned off. Agree the new chart of accounts and how jobs map to tracking.

2.The conversion itself

If Jet Convert or MMC Convert can take your file, use it. It is quick and cheap for the data lift. If your file is one they turn away (for example multi-currency or multi-location), we script the conversion instead and give you import files to review before anything is loaded.

3.After the data lands

Reconnect and test the systems that feed the accounts, rebuild the reports you rely on, set up the inter-company side if you run more than one entity, and give your accountant a reconciliation pack to sign off.

For example, a builder moving from MYOB to Xero might run two companies, post jobs from simPRO and cost every job by site and stage. The conversion tool moves each company's file. Someone still has to decide how stages become Xero tracking, re-point simPRO to the new organisations, set up the inter-company loan accounts and rebuild the job profitability report the owner looks at every Monday.

Which migration page fits your move: MYOB to Xero migration, Xero to MYOB migration, Reckon or QuickBooks to Xero migration, or accounting data migration for anything else.

The Technical Side

For whoever looks after the books or the systems, a few things worth checking before you upload a file to either service:

  • Open years in .MYO files. Jet Convert can only pull transactions from financial years that are still open in older MYOB desktop files. If you need closed years, plan for opening balances instead.
  • Multi-currency and locations. Check whether multi-currency or multi-location has ever been switched on in the MYOB or Reckon file. Jet Convert won't take those files.
  • Negative stock. Clear negative inventory before upload, or the file will be rejected.
  • Account types. Accounts receivable, accounts payable and GST accounts must not be set up as bank accounts, and the GST basis must be right.
  • Jobs to tracking. Decide your two Xero tracking categories before conversion. Re-mapping afterwards means editing converted transactions.
  • Cut-off and integrations. Turn off bank feeds and add-ons in the old file, pick a cut-off date, and keep a list of every system that posts to the accounts so each one can be reconnected and tested.
  • Duplicates. Merge duplicate contacts and items first. See our guide to cleaning data before a migration.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on where you are going. Jet Convert only converts into Xero, from MYOB, Reckon and QuickBooks. MMC Convert converts into Xero, MYOB Business, QuickBooks Online, Reckon and several other systems, and from almost any accounting software. If you are moving to Xero from a standard MYOB or Reckon file, both will do the job. If you are moving to MYOB Business, MMC Convert is the one MYOB itself points you to.

As at October 2026, Jet Convert's Australian pricing page lists a Standard package at $0 (normally $250, subsidised by Xero for eligible conversions) covering the current and previous financial year, and an Accelerate package at $470 (normally $720) covering the current year plus three previous years. Extra years are $150 per year, and add-ons such as bank account mapping, monthly comparatives and a changed chart of accounts are charged separately. Jet Convert says it does not do free conversions into a Xero 30-day trial.

As at October 2026, MMC Convert lists fixed prices in AUD. From MYOB, QuickBooks Online, Reckon or Xero: Basic $99 or Full Transactional $189, plus $85 per extra year. From other software: $399 or $549, plus $150 per extra year. For moves into MYOB Business, MYOB says it covers the cost of migrating the current and previous financial years, with extra years charged by MMC Convert. Multi-currency, payroll and some other items are paid add-ons.

Jet Convert says anywhere from 20 minutes to 3-5 business days depending on the conversion, and its FAQ gives up to 3 business days for MYOB desktop files and up to 5 for other software. For moves into MYOB Business, MYOB says you will be running within ten business days. Allow extra time on your side to prepare the file before it goes in and to check the result after it comes out.

For most small businesses with one company file, one currency and nothing much connected to it, no. Use the tool, have your bookkeeper or accountant check the trial balance, and you're done. You need more help when the tool turns your file away, when you run more than one entity, or when other systems (job management, inventory, CRM, payroll apps) feed into the accounts and have to be reconnected and tested.

Not as pay runs. Jet Convert brings across payroll setup (employees, leave, pay templates and year-to-date opening balances), and past payroll appears as manual journals or paid bills rather than individual pay runs. MYOB says payroll data moved by MMC Convert into MYOB Business comes across as general journals. Keep your old file, or reports from it, for payroll history, and ask your accountant how to handle BAS and PAYG reporting for the year you switch.

Yes. Most migrations go best when your accountant or bookkeeper signs off the opening balances. We can work alongside them, prepare the file before it goes into the conversion tool, and give them a reconciliation pack to review afterwards, so the decisions about the accounts stay with the people who know your books.

Every job is scoped and given a fixed quote after a free initial chat. What drives the cost is how many entities you have, how many systems connect to the accounts, and how much history and reporting you need rebuilt. If you are not sure yet what needs fixing, our $5,000 Process & Systems Audit maps your processes and systems and gives you a written report first.

Not Sure the Tool Will Cover It?
