MYOB Exo Payroll Is Ending: Keeping Exo Business, Moving Payroll

15 October 2026 Kenomont Team Systems Integration, Business Strategy

MYOB is retiring Exo Payroll (also called Exo Employer Services), but Exo Business, the side that runs your accounts, stock and orders, is not being retired. MYOB partners report that renewals stopped in late 2025 and that legislative updates end in 2026, after which Exo Payroll can't be relied on to run compliant pays. MYOB's suggested replacement is MYOB Acumatica Payroll, and other payroll systems are options too. Your MYOB partner can confirm the exact cut-off for your licence. The decision most businesses face is how to replace payroll while keeping Exo Business running. This guide covers the options and the work that is easy to forget: payroll history, the link back to Exo Business, and your reports.

What's ending and what isn't

  • Exo Payroll / Employer Services: being retired. Partner notices say no new licences or renewals from late 2025, with tax and legislative updates ending in 2026. Payroll software that no longer gets tax table and compliance updates can't be used to pay staff correctly.
  • Exo Business: continuing. Partners state it is not at end of support or end of life.

So you don't have to replace everything at once. Many businesses replace payroll now and decide about Exo Business on their own timetable.

Your payroll options

  1. MYOB Acumatica Payroll. MYOB's recommended path. A natural fit if you are also considering a move to MYOB Acumatica for the rest of the business.
  2. Another Australian payroll system. Stand-alone payroll and HR platforms are widely used alongside other accounting systems.
  3. Payroll inside a new accounting system, if you are replacing Exo Business at the same time.

The payroll set-up itself (awards, pay rules, leave, Single Touch Payroll, super) is normally done by the payroll vendor or your MYOB partner. That part is well covered and you shouldn't need anyone else for it.

The parts that get missed

Moving payroll touches more than payroll. These are the pieces that cause problems after go-live:

  • Payroll history. Year-to-date figures for the current financial year, leave balances, and enough past pay history to answer questions and handle back pay. Decide what moves across, what is archived, and how you'll get at the old data once Exo Payroll is read-only.
  • The link back to Exo Business. Pay runs need to land in Exo Business as journals, coded to the right accounts and departments. If Exo Payroll did this automatically, the new payroll needs an equivalent.
  • Labour costs on jobs. If labour is costed to jobs or projects in Exo Business, timesheets and pay costs have to keep flowing to the right job codes.
  • Reports. Payroll cost reports, labour cost by job or department, and anything finance runs each month that reads Exo Payroll data directly.
  • Super under Payday Super. Since 1 July 2026 super has to be paid with each pay run, so check the new payroll handles this from the first pay run.

Where we fit

If you are moving everything to MYOB Acumatica with a partner, or your payroll is simple and stand-alone, the partner or payroll vendor may cover it all and you won't need us.

We help when payroll is changing but other systems are staying. That means connecting the new payroll to Exo Business, keeping labour costs flowing to jobs, carrying payroll history across or archiving it so it stays usable, and rebuilding the reports that depended on Exo Payroll. Frequently asked questions

Is MYOB Exo being discontinued?

Exo Payroll (Employer Services) is being retired. MYOB partners state that Exo Business, the accounting and operations side, is not at end of life. Confirm the details for your licence with your MYOB partner.

When does MYOB Exo Payroll stop working?

Partner notices say renewals stopped in late 2025 and legislative updates end in 2026, after which it shouldn't be used to run pays. Exact dates vary between sources, so check your licence with your MYOB partner rather than relying on a general date.

What does MYOB recommend instead of Exo Payroll?

MYOB Acumatica Payroll. Other Australian payroll systems are also options, especially if you plan to keep Exo Business for now.

Can I keep Exo Business and use a different payroll system?

Yes. The work is in connecting them: pay run journals into Exo Business, labour costs to jobs, and the reports finance relies on. Plan that before go-live, not after the first pay run.
